League Preview: Galway United -v- Derry City

GALWAY UNITED

Galway United will be looking to build on last weekend’s spirited draw away to Shamrock Rovers last wee when they host Derry City at Eamonn Deacy Park (kick-off is at 7.45pm).

The Tribesmen even led for a time against the Hoops last weekend before giving up a leveller to the champions.

But they face a new test against Derry City on Friday night.

“They are brave, they are organised, they are together,” Ollie Horgan said about his squad when speaking to extratime.com last week.

“I just think the togetherness of the group is huge and has probably got us the result on Friday night and other results.

“We move on. There is no point in smelling yourself because you beat Shelbourne because you know what’s around the corner when the likes of Derry are coming next Friday night.

DERRY CITY

Derry City boss Ruaidhri Higgins insists his side will be going to Galway in search of a win on Friday night.

The Candystripes won against Waterford last weekend and have claimed successive victories since their defeat against Shamrock Rovers a fortnight ago.

“We want to go down there and win,” Higgins told the Irish News. “We had a good away win last week.

“We’ve responded really well from the Shamrock Rovers game, and we want that to continue now on Friday.

“If you look at Galway’s last couple, they’ve drawn in Tallaght and they’ve beaten Shelbourne, so they’re a very, very good side.

“The league is full of good sides, so we’ll give them the respect they deserve, but we want to go down there and win.”

Referee: Rob Hennessy.
