Mathews rues concession of "soft" goals

Drogheda manager Alan Mathews wasn’t in a forgiving mood after his sides capitulation to Bohemians on Friday night. He was clearly frustrated with his sides defensive flaws.

“We conceded two soft goals in the space of 90 seconds on the 27th minute and you take the third goal, a fluke, and they are the champions and they are at home and they knocked the ball around with confidence at that stage.

"We didn’t defend properly," Mathews admitted. "And we conceded two soft goals within a 90 second window and the game changed. Goals change games and prior to that we should have scored, we hit the cross bar and we also didn’t work the keeper enough. We had good opportunities to score and we didn’t take and that’s what happens at this stage.

However, despite the manner in which his side were beaten, Mathews remains positive for the remaining fixtures.

“We go out every week to try and pick up three points, some weeks we do and some weeks we don’t. We will try and do that next week,” he said.

"We have another game next week and that’s the beauty of this league, we have another chance to get some points."
