Galway WFC host Connacht rivals Castlebar Celtic looking for a repeat of their victory against the Mayo side in November which would see the Galwegians cut the deficit between the teams to a single point.
The home side are without Lucy Hannon this week and coach Nigel Keady anticipates a testing encounter.
"There's not a lot about between the sides. When we beat them it was a lot closer than the scoreline suggested. I'm sure they'll all be looking to bounce back," said Keady.
"We've only taken six days off and played a couple of friendlies. It was like a mini pre-season and it was good to get that under our belts. We hope we can get off to a good start for 2014. With the cup coming up there's a good opportunity there."
Castlebar coach Adrian Carberry has brought in four new players - Geraldine McLoughlin (Sligo IT), Marie Gallagher and Lauren Bowles (both ex-DLR Waves) and Aoife Brennan, who played in the All-Ireland club GAA Final with Carnacon recently. Caoimhe O'Reilly is still out so Rachel King continues in goal.
"It's a huge game for us. It's a derby. We didn't show up the last time and they deservedly beat us. We created chances but didn't take them," said Carberry.
"It'll be neck and neck with ourselves, Galway, DLR Waves and Wexford for third spot. We want to get that position. We have to get results in these games."
