Drogheda United have officially welcomed back defender Conor Kane.

25-year-old Kane rejoined the team after spending the latter half of the 2023 season on loan from Shelbourne.

Kane previously made 140 appearances for the club during a five-year tenure from 2017 to 2021. His return to the team saw him add 12 more appearances under manager Kevin Doherty's guidance last season.

Speaking about his return, Kane expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “I’m delighted to be back. It was a no brainer for me so I’m glad it was all finalised quickly."

He reflected on the evolution of the club since his initial stint, noting significant improvements in both the team's performance and its community engagement. "There’s a great buzz around the club, it’s great to be back," he added.

Manager Kevin Doherty also shared his excitement about Kane's return.

“I go a long way back with Conor. Getting him in on loan last season was massive at the time," Doherty said. He praised Kane's performance, especially after recovering from an injury, and emphasized Kane's importance to the team and the club's culture.

“When he came into the team, he was a regular starter. It was great for him to get games back under his belt after the injury, and he had some really excellent performances for us.

“He’s another player who knows the value of the club, and being loved at the club, and he certainly is by us. It’s great to have him as a Drogheda United player again, I’m delighted,” expressed Doherty.
