League Preview: Cork City -v- Shamrock Rovers

CORK CITY

Cork City will be looking to build some momentum for the relegation play-off final on Friday week when they host champions Shamrock Rovers on Monday (kick-off is at 4.45pm).

The Leesiders' place in ninth was confirmed on Saturday night when Sligo Rovers picked up a point at home against Drogheda United.

But they will be keen to go into a play-off against Cobh Ramblers or Waterford with a few positive results behind them

“The minimum requirement down here is that fight and desire for the shirt and that you're playing for Cork City,” interim manager Richie Holland told the Irish Sun last week.

“When we have that connection between the players and the fans this club is a different animal altogether and it’s just trying to get that back.

“That’s the minimum I can ask the lads here for. That’s the minimum I want for them.

SHAMROCK ROVERS

Stephen Bradley insists his Shamrock Rovers side will show up and be ready for a fight when they take on Cork City in front of the RTE TV cameras on Monday.

Rovers visit Turner’s Cross fresh off the back of becoming four in a row Premier Division champions - but Bradley reckons there is no fear of his side not being focused on their task.

“We’ve enjoyed the weekend and it’s important we do enjoy it as this success doesn’t happen very often,” he told his club’s website

“But the players are the best in the country and have been for quite some time. They show up every day and every week and it will be no different in Cork.

“We’ll do what we always do, try and win the game, that doesn’t change. Then we’ll have the Sligo game at home where we’ll get the trophy and we’ll enjoy that night and weekend again.

“But as I said, these players show up every week so Monday will be no different.”

Ronan Finn is out for the Hoops after being forced off against St Patrick’s Athletic on Friday night.
