Shamrock Rovers will play the winners of the tie between Hamrun Spartans (Malta) and Dinamo Tbilisi (Georgia) should they beat Ferencvaros in their upcoming two legged European tie this week.

Rovers are in the champions side of the draw so both their potential opponents have dropped into the Europa Conference League qualifcation having lost their first round qualifier in the Champions League.

The Maltese champions lost 6-1 on aggregate to Maccabi Haifa while Dinamo Tbilisi were eliminated by Astana (drawing 1-1 away and losing 2-1 at home).

Rovers play in Budapest this coming Thursday (kick-off a 6pm kick-off Irish time) with the return leg against Ferencvaros set for Tallaght Stadium with an 8pm kick-off on Thursday 3rd August.

Both the Hoops and the five-in-a-row Hungarian champions exited the Champions League qualifiers and drop into the second qualifying round of the Europa Conference League.

Rovers lost to Icelandic side Breidablik while Ferencvaros come into this week's tie off the back of a two legged humbling against Faroe Islands champions KI Klaksvik last week.

Should the League of Ireland champions exit at the hands of Ferencvaros, they will earn €810,000 in total from this European campaign.

This breaks down as €350k for second round elimination plus €200k (€100k for each round they played in) and an additional €260,000 as domestic champions eliminated before reaching the group stages.

They face a tough task against a Ferencvaros side they played last year. They beat Rovers 4-0 in Budapest in the first leg with the Hoops winning 1-0 in Tallaght in the return leg.

If they can overcome the Hungarian side to face either Hamrun Spartans or Dinamo Tbilisi, it would see their total earnings go to €1.11m.

Progression one round further into the play-off round would guarantee them €1.41m, while the prize of group stage qualification would be worth a minimum of €3.34 m.
