Graham Coughlan, manager of Newport County, has announced the signing of 27-year-old defensive midfielder Bryn Morris.

Set to be the third new addition to the Newport squad, Morris will join on a two-year deal following the expiration of his contract with fellow league two side Grimsby Town at the end of the month.

Speaking on the new acquisition, Coughlan expressed his confidence in Morris's abilities.

"Bryn is a great addition," stated the Newport manager. "He has a lot of experience and will give us additional ball control in the middle of the park. He has a great engine which will fit into how we play. He is also a great character who displays strong leadership qualities, so I’m really looking forward to working with him."

Morris began his football career in the academy at Middlesborough, making his first-team debut in 2013.

Further enhancing his experience with loan spells at Burton, Coventry, York, and Walsall, he transitioned to Shrewsbury Town on a permanent basis in 2017.

After subsequent spells at Portsmouth and Burton, he moved to Grimsby in 2022. Last season, he made 42 appearances and netted twice for the Mariners.

Bryn himself has expressed enthusiasm about joining the Exiles, acknowledging the role of Graham Coughlan in his decision.

“The Gaffer (Graham) made contact quite early and I really liked the way he came across,” said Bryn.

“On a personal level he seemed a good guy. He spoke highly about the club and everything that it’s about. It just seemed a great fit for me. I’m looking forward to settling in, having a good pre-season, and getting going again with the fixtures.”
