Cobh Ramblers manager Shane Keegan has strengthened the club's defence ahead of the 2023 season with the signing of Charlie Lyons. The defender returns from Galway United after helping the Connaught side to the 2022 play-off final. Having spent a couple of years with Preston North End, he then spent three years at St. Colman’s Park where he quickly became a favourite. He scored 9 goals across his 66 appearances in his first spell at the club and adds experience and solidity to their back-line.

Having previously publicised a number of defensive re-signings, including Breandan Frahill, Justin Eguaibor and Academy star Michael McCarthy, Lyons becomes the newest member of Keegan's backline to sign up for 2023 and club have stated that they expect to announce more signings in due course. Cobh begin their season with a trip to Kerry FC on the 17th of February.
