Shamrock Rovers F.C. appear to be steaming towards a League of Ireland Premier Division title this year and the match against Drogheda United could set them up very well for the rest of the season. The Rovers will be hosting Drogheda United who suffered defeat to Dundalk in their last outing.

This season has been incredibly eventful, and the bets are already pouring in for Irish soccer and Gaelic sports on platforms like Betway. More betting platforms than ever before are starting to incorporate GAA and League Of Ireland betting options, which is excellent news for fans across Ireland.

Shamrock Rovers have been dominating this season following on from their second consecutive League of Ireland Premier Division title. As one of the top ranked football clubs in Ireland, Rovers have gone from strength to strength and have established themselves as a formidable force in domestic football.

While the Rovers have only conceded 18 times in 20 matches, they have only had one clean sheet in eight attempts.

There are high expectations placed on a number of Rovers players, including Aaron Greene, Graham Burke and Rory Gaffney, who all scored two goals each during the last three games.

Drogheda is certainly going to be the underdog for this match, as they are hoping to cling onto their current place in the table.

The team has suffered its fair share of defeats, however, as they recently lost three games, with the latest game lost against the Dundalk F.C. These losses have left a mark and the team is now 35 points behind Rovers and 12 points ahead of the relegation play-off spot.

There are many strong players on the Drogheda United team, but they have not scored many goals in the last four matches.

Last season’s performance

Both Rovers and Drogheda United had interesting seasons last year. The Rovers were the League Champions in both 2020 and 2021 and they won the FAI Cup in 2019. The President’s Cup was also won by the Rovers in 2022, so they certainly are the team to beat.

Last year, the Rovers won the League title by a sizeable 16-point margin and set a new club record for wins. As head coach, Stephen Bradley skilfully directed the team to victory and deftly manoeuvred top scorer Danny Mandroiu to an amazing 15 league goals.

Drogheda United had a less stellar year, but their star player Stephen Meaney is proving to be an excellent player and a leader both on and off the pitch.

The team needs to be willing to fight for points and improve the work rate of the players. In order to become a truly dominant force in the League, they will also need a regular goal-scorer and a finessed defensive strategy.
