Matthew’s Biography

Matthew started his career at Derry City but moved on to Finn Harps at the start of the 2006 season. He made his senior debut for Harps in a League Cup victory over Galway United at Finn Park during on 4 April 2006, scoring four goals in 28 league games during an impressive first season. But he failed to hold down a regular first team spot in 2007 and went out on loan to Limavady United in August '07. He made his debut for Limavady against Donegal Celtic on 18 August 2007 and made 21 league and cup appearances for before signing a permanent deal at Coleraine on 21 January 2008.

Mathew spent two years at Coleraine, making 57 league appearances, before signing back at Finn Harps for the second time in February 2010. He made 29 league appearances and scored three league goals that year but was released by the club at the end of the 2010 season.

He spent 2011 at Ulster Senior League side Kildrum Tigers and in February 2012 he returned to league football, signing for Declan Devine at Derry City. He made just two league appearances for the Candystripes before going to the US in June 2012. On his return from the States Matt signed for Ulster Senior League side Kildrum Tigers and in January 2013 he joined Peter Hutton's Finn Harps squad. He made just 6 league appearances before leaving the club in the July transfer window.

In December 2014 Matt signed for Harps yet again, this time under the management of Ollie Horgan. He went on to make twenty-three league appearances, scoring once in the 1-1 draw against Athlone Town, before appearing in all four play-off matches as Finn Harps were promoted to the Premier Division after overcoming UCD and Limerick.

Matthew went on to make two substitute appearances for Harps in the Premier Division before leaving the Donegal side in July 2016.
