Stephen’s Biography

Stephen is a forward who played for Belvedere and Stella Maris before joining the youth academy at Manchester City. He made his debut for City under Kevin Keegan, coming on as a sub against Bolton Wanderers on 21 February 2004.

Having suffered a serious back injury at City, he was taken on by Sunderland in June 2004 where he went on to make 81 league appearances, scoring 22 times, over the next three seasons. In July 2007 he re-joined his former Sunderland boss Mick McCarthy at Wolverhampton Wanderers but just over a year later, in September 2008, he left the club to sign for Preston North End.

Stephen subsequently played at Norwich City on loan, and at Heart of Midlothian in Scotland before signing for Coventry City in July 2012. He went on to score four goals in twenty-five appearances for the club in League One before he left them at the end of the 2012/13 season. He missed out on playing for a club during the 2013/14 season but signed for League Two side Carlisle United ahead of the 2014/15 campaign.

Stephen made eighteen appearances for Carlisle United, scoring once, before an achilles rupture ended his season just before November 2014. He was released at the end of his contract in May 2015 and trained with Shamrock Rovers during their pre-season ahead of the 2016 season. He didn't sign for the Tallaght side but in April 2016, he signed for First Division side Shelbourne.

Stephen made his League of Ireland debut away to Cobh Ramblers on 23 April 2013 and he made 6 league appearances fro Shelbourne before parting company with the club in August 2016. In January 2017 Stephen signed for Pete Mahon at newly promoted Drogheda United. Stephen made 22 appearances, scoring two goals in all competitions before signing for Morpeth Town at the end of the season.
