Padraig’s Biography

Padraig came through the schoolboy set-up at Shamrock Rovers and made his senior debut, aged 18, when he came on as a sub in the closing stages of the game away to Athlone Town on 16th March 2006. He had a loan spell with Kildare County during the 2007 season when he scored 5 goals in 13 league appearances.

He built something of a reputation for himself as a regular marksman for the Hoops, netting 11 goals for the first team squad including a crucial goal against the Hoops fierce rivals Bohemians on the 2nd of October 2009 to send the Hoops to the top of the table.

In the winter of 2009, as Shamrock Rovers were looking to strengthen their squad for a title challenge, Padraig was deemed surplus to requirements by new boss Michael O'Neill and his contract at Tallaght was not renewed. It didn't take long for Sligo Rovers boss Paul Cook to sign up the Carlow native and he was named as Sligo's second signing of the '09 close season.

In 2010 Padraig made 27 league appearances for Sligo scoring a remarkable 17 league goals and in September 2010 he signed for Portuguese top flight side Paços de Ferreira. He made 17 league appearances for the Portuguese side but in August 2011 he signed on a season long loan with English side Accrington Stanley.

On 13 August 2012 Padraig signed a permanent deal with Accrington but his stay there only lasted until the end of tat season and in the summer of 2013 he joined Morcambe where he played for the next two years.

Padraig spent 2014/15 with Grimsby Town and won their Player of the Year award, scoring 37 goals in all competitions. He was offered another year at Blundell Park but opted to sign for Harlepool United instead. He scored 15 times there but left to join Newport County in August 2017.

He scored 59 times for Newport in four seasons and then went on a season long loan to Exeter City in 2021/22. On his return to Newport, in the summer of 2022, he signed a deal to join Woking FC. He spent one and a half seasons at Woking and left in January 2024 to return to Ireland.

In January 2024 Padraig signed for Keith Long at Waterford.
