Gabriel ’s Biography
Born in Rome, Gabriel began his career in Italy and was once on the books at Lazio. By 2008 he was playing for Drogheda Town and was in goals when they met Bohemians in the third round of the FAI Cup. Bohs ran out 3-0 winners on the day but Bray Wanderers signed him up for the remainder of the 2008 season.
In 2009 Gabriel moved to Drogheda United and in 2010 he made his way to Monaghan United where he made the goalkeeper's jersey his own under manager Mick Cooke, making 61 league appearances over the next two seasons. In 2010 Gabriel kept goal in the League Cup final, a game Monaghan lost 1-0 to Sligo Rovers and in 2011 he helped the Mons to promotion from the First Division.
In December 2011 Gabriel left Monaghan to follow his ex boss, Mick Cooke, to Drogheda United where he was immediately installed as first choice 'keeper. He made his debut on the opening night of the 2012 season and made 29 league appearances as Drogheda finished second to champions Sligo Rovers. Gabriel also picked up a League Cup winners medal as Drogheda overcame Shamrock Rovers in the final.
Gabriel re-signed for Drogheda for the 2013 season and made a further 20 league appearances for the club. He also played in Drogheda's Setanta Cup final defeat to Shamrock Rovers and in both legs of the Europa League tie against Malmo FF of Sweden. But he fell out of favour in the latter months of the season and was on the bench for the EA and FAI Cup finals. He left Drogheda at the end of the 2013 season and in January 2014 he signed for Stephen Kenny at Dundalk.
Gabriel's first appearance for Dundalk came in an EA Cup win away to Bray Wanderers on 5 May 2014 and he kept goal in all four games as they won the trophy that year. He also appeared in one FAI Cup game and one Europa League match against Hajduk Split but Gabriel failed to make a league appearance in a campaign that saw the Lilywhites win the 2014 League title.
Over the next two seasons Gabriel was second choice to new arrival Gary Rogers and he made just 7 league appearances in two more title-winning campaigns for Dundalk. In 2015 he made eight appearances in cup games while in 2016 he played in every FAI Cup game except the Final, which Dundalk lost to Cork City, and added nine more cup appearances to his career total.
Sava re-signed with Dundalk ahead of the 2018 season. In December 2018, Gabriel sighed for Bray Wanderers for the 2019 season.
In 2020 Gabiel signed with Warrenpoint Town before extending his contract in July 2020.
