Gearóid ’s Biography

Gearoid first appeared for Cork City in 2010 when they played under the flag of Cork City Foras Co-op following the collapse of the club under chairman Tommy Coughlan. He made his league debut for the club against Athlone Town at Turner's Cross on 29th May and made 17 league appearances that year. In 2011 Gearoid helped the Rebels to the First Division title, making 29 league appearances and scoring five league goals.

Gearoid was a key member of City's midfield as the club returned to the Premier Division making 57 league appearances over 2012 and 2013 with the Rebels finishing sixth on both occasions. In 2014 City finished runners up in the Premier Division with Gearoid scoring twice in 26 league appearances. This was to be Gearoid's last in City colours and just before Christmas in 2014 he signed for Cambridge United.

Gearóid went on to make eight appearances for Cambridge in League Two during the 2014/15 season as the U's finished nineteenth. He also came off the bench against Manchester United in the 4th round of the FA Cup in February 2015, as Cambridge lost 3-0 to the Premier League side. In the 2015/16 season, Gearóid made two League Two appearances, getting one assist, and also appeared in the 2-0 loss to Dagenham & Redbridge in the Football League Trophy.

In December 2015, Gearóid left Cambridge by mutual consent in order to return to Cork City and in 2016 he made 24 league appearances as John Caulfield's side finished runners up to Dundalk in the Premier Division. Gearoid also won an FAI Cup winners medal as City beat Dundalk 1-0 in the final at the Aviva Stadium.

Then in October 2017 it was announced that Gearoid had signed a new two year deal with City, who had also announced plans to pay players for 12 months of the year. In December 2020, Gearoid re-signed with Cork for the 2021 First Division season. Gearoid retired following the conclusion of the 2021 season.
