Kevin’s Biography

Kevin spent seven years at Seaview Celtic, and was signed for Waterford United's U-20s side after a single season at Tramore AFC.

Kevin began the 2009 season as understudy to first choice keeper Michael Devine but made his senior debut when coming on as a half-time substitute in the 6-0 win over Carrigaline United in the third round of the FAI Cup. He made his league debut later that season, keeping a clean sheet in a win over Mervue United on 20 October, and three days later he got his big chance to shine in the 2009 FAI Cup semi final against Sligo Rovers. With Mick Devine suspended for the game, the youngster had to step in having played very little throughout the season. Burns repaid the faith of Stephen Henderson with an outstanding performance in front of almost 4,500 fans.

Kevin started the 2010 season as second choice keeper to Chris Konopka but he soon got an opportunity, replacing Konopka at half-time in a 1-0 win away to Salthill Devon four weeks into the season. He kept his place and went on to make 22 league appearances, following that up with 30 league appearances in 2011. By this stage Kevin was considered one of the best young 'keepers in the league and in December 2011 he was signed by Tommy Dunne for newly promoted Cork City.

Kevin spent two seasons at Turner's Cross and made his senior debut in a Munster Senior Cup win over Rockmount on 21 February 2012. But he spent most of his time with Cork City sitting on the bench. He was an unused substitute fifty times in his two years at the club, making just 3 league appearances, and on 21 December 2013 it was announced that he had returned to Waterford United ahead of their 2014 First Division campaign.

Kevin returned to the RSC as first choice 'keeper and was between the posts for Waterford's league opener at home to Finn Harps in March 2014. He kept a clean sheet as the Blues drew 0-0 but it would prove a disappointing season overall. Kevin made 24 league appearances as Waterford finished second bottom of the First Division. He left the club at the end of the season.

In January 2016, Kevin returned to Waterford United ahead of the 2016 First Division campaign and made eleven league appearances for the club before leaving in August 2016.
