Peter played underage football for Monaghan United and Drogheda Boys before being offered a football scholarship at UCD. In 2010 Peter played ten times for UCD in the Premier Division before switching to Drogheda United in the summer transfer window.
Peter made 15 league appearances for Drogheda in the latter half of 2010, scoring on the final night of the season in a 3-3 draw with Galway United. But these were difficult times at Drogheda and Peter did not return for the start of 2011.
In July 2011, with manager Mick Cooke having steadied the Drogheda ship, Peter returned to Drogheda colours and made a further 14 league appearances for the Louth club. But in January 2012 it was announced that Peter had signed for Bohemians under new manager Aaron Callaghan. he went on to score four league goals in just 11 league appearances that year but Peter was not included in Aaron Callaghan's 2013 squad.
Peter spent the early months of 2013 training with Irish League side Portadown and officially signed on 27 April 2013.
