Ray’s Biography
Ray came through the youth system at Home Farm and began his career at WBA in 1964. He spent four years with the Baggies but made just 5 league appearances for them before moving to Charlton Athletic in 1968.
He was regular in the first team at Charlton for five seasons before moving on to Swindon Town in 1972. He spent a further two seasons at the County Ground and in 1974 he signed for Preston North End.
Two years later he returned for a second spell at West Bromwich Albion and after one last year at the Hawthorns he set off for home to sign for Shamrock Rovers in 1977. He played with the Hoops for three years.
In the Summer of 1980 he was offered the player/manager job at Drogheda United, He spent the next two years in charge of Drogheda during which time he finished his time as a player.
When he left Drogheda he spent two years in charge of Home Farm, followed by six years in charge at Shamrock Rovers.
Ray also won 42 senior international caps for the Republic of Ireland as well as running a Dublin based Travel Agency that specialised in selling packages to Irish international trips. Sadly, Ray passed away in April 2015 at the age of 68.
