Denis’s Biography
Denis is a former English international winger who began his career at Sunderland in 1968. He spent six years there and played in the club's momentous FA Cup final win over Leeds United in 1973.
He signed for Manchester City in 1974 and scored the winner in their 1976 League Cup final win over Newcastle United with a spectacular overhead kick.
In 1978 Denis crossed the Atlantic to play for New York Cosmos alongside Pele and Franz Beckenbauer. After two years in the US he returned to England for a second spell with Manchester City which lasted for three years.
In the Summer of 1983 Denis signed for Stoke City but after just four appearances he moved on to Burnley in December of that year. He spent the rest of 83/84 at Turf Moor and after a year out of the game, in 1985, he signed for Derry City who had just been elected to the League of Ireland as founder members of the First Division.
Denis made his league bow for Derry in a 1-1 draw with EMFA at Buckley Park on 20 October 1985. He played just three league games for the club and left in mid December 1985.
