Derek’s Biography

Derek started his League of Ireland career at Home Farm in 1985/86. He made his league debut as a second half substitute for Derek Rogers in a 3-2 defeat to Shamrock Rovers at Tolka Park on 17 November 1985 and played with the Farm until the following Summer when he signed for Billy Young at Bohemians.

Derek spent four seasons with Bohemians before moving to England where he signed for Part Vale in June of 1990. After a short spell at Vale Park, which included a month long loan spell at Dutch side Wageningen, he returned to Ireland to sign for Shamrock Rovers in November of 1990.

He was with the Hoops for three seasons, scoring 25 goals in 75 league appearances, before signing for Glentoran in November of 1993. In late January 1994 he returned to the LOI, signing on loan for Dermot Keely at Dundalk. He went back to Belfast for the start of the 1994/95 season but rejoined Bohemians just after Christmas of 1994. He went on to play with Bohs for six years before rounding off his career at UCD where he played between 2000 and 2002.
