Dermot’s Biography

Dermot began his League of Ireland career in Shamrock Rovers' youth team of the late 1980s and was a Youth international by the time he joined Dundalk in 1979. He had been offered professional terms by Rovers but turned them down to avoid competing for a first team place with his brother, Alan.

He played with the Lilywhites for two years but turned out mainly for the club's reserve side. His performances impressed Bohemians manager Billy Young and he signed for the Gypsies in 1981. He spent ten years at Dalymount Park making almost 300 league appearances.

In 1991 he left Bohs to sign for Derry City and he played at the Brandywell for four more seasons, winning the FAI Cup with them in 1995. He left Derry that summer to play with Glenavon in the Irish League where he remained for three years before ending his playing career at Ballymena United.
