Mick’s Biography

Mick played underage football for Carraroe in his native Sligo and then for Ballisodare United before Gerry Mitchell signed the 17-year-old for Sligo Rovers' reserve team. He graduated to Sligo's first team towards the end of the 1978/79 season, making his debut against Cork Alberts at the Showgrounds on 25 March '79.

He made two senior appearances for the Bit o' Red that season but left to join Johnny Giles' youth academy at Shamrock Rovers that summer and was soon involved with the Hoops' senior side. He spent two seasons with the Dublin side but left Milltown in November 1981 to return to his home County and re-sign for Sligo Rovers under manager Patsy McGowan.

Mick spent the next nine seasons at the Showgrounds and played in Sligo's first ever FAI Cup winning team when they beat Bohemians 2-1 in the 1983 final. He left the club in the summer of 1990 and had one final League of Ireland season with Longford Town in 1990/91. Subsequently, Mick moved to Cork where he played Munster Senior League football with Ballincolig before returning to Sligo and finishing up his playing days back at Ballisodare United.
