Alfie’s Biography

Alfie began his senior career with his hometown team Waterford in 1956. In 1957 he moved to Cork Hibernians for a year, returning to aterford in 1958 where he played for another two seasons before moving to England.

In June 1960 Alfie signed for Aston Villa where he made just 7 senior appearances, scoring twice. After two years at Villa park, he left to join Doncaster Rovers where he stayed for three seasons, and then Alfie spent another season at Newport County.

In 1966, Alfie returned to the League of Ireland and Waterford. Another 8 seasons followed at Kilcohan Park, and in 1974 he went to Corl Celtic. After one season, he moved on again, to St Patrick's Ath for 1975/76. And in 1976/77 he played with Limerick.

He left senior football for the next four years, returning to LOI action as player/manager of Thurles Town in 1981/82. The following season he became player/manager at Waterford for his last season as a player.
