Noel’s Biography
Noel's playing career began with Home Farm in 1973 and in 1975 he won an FAI Cup winner's medal having been named as substitute for the 1-0 win against Shelbourne. In 1977 he signed for Dundalk where he scored three times before moving on to join Shamrock Rovers the following summer.
He returned to Home Farm for the 1979/80 season after which he spent two seasons at Bohemians. In 1982 Noel returned to Dundalk for a second spell at Oriel Park and in 1983 he rejoined Shamrock Rovers as player/coach under Jim McLoughlin. Over the next two seasons Noel won two League titles and an FAI Cup winners medal, before signing for French Second Division side Valencienne at the end of the 1984/85 season.
Noel was in France for just seven months when he was offered the player/manager role at Derry City following the departure of Jim Crossan in November of the same year. In two seasons at Derry Noel won the First Division title and a League Cup but he left the club in November 1987.
He had a brief spell at Waterford United before being appointed player/manager at Shamrock Rovers in 1988. He spent three years in charge of Rovers but was sacked in 1991 and moved on to become player/manager at Limerick City in July 1992. There was a brief sojourn with Omagh Town in 1993 but he quickly returned to fill multiple roles at Limerick, including as a player, until 1997.
Coaching and Management stints followed at Shelbourne, Finn harps and Drogheda but in 2000 he was appointed manager of the Republic of Ireland's international women's team. He subsequently worked with the Irish U21s and was briefly the caretaker manager of the senior International team.
In December 2020, Noel was appointed as the Shelbourne WNL manager.
