Richard’s Biography

Richard came through the academy of Stoke City although he gained first team experience out on loan to then Icelandic Urvalsdelid side Vikingur for the 2004 season as he joined in June 2004. He made nine appearances for the Icelandci club before returning to Stoke in May 2005. He was released at the end of the 2004/05 season.

Richard joined Bristol City in the summer of 2005 and in his first season, made nine league appearances whilst also going out loan to Wycombe Wanderers. The 2006/07 season was better for the player as he made over forty appearances in all competitions as the Robins were promoted to the Championship. However, the following season saw him play for four separate clubs as game time was met with loan spells at Huddersfield Town, Carlisle United and Cheltenham Town.

In August 2008, Richard joined Carlisle United on a permanent deal and made nearly ninety appearances for the club over the next two seasons in League One, earning the club's Player of the Year in the latter. However, he would once more move on as a free transfer with Coventry City welcoming him in June 2010.

Richard went on to become a key part of the Coventry defence over the next two seasons, making over ninety appearances for the club. In July 2012, Derby County signed Richard for an undisclosed fee.

In August 2020, Richard signed for MK Dons. In January 2021, Richard signed with Huddersfield until the end of the season.

Richard has previously been called up to the Republic of Ireland senior squad and, ahead of the 2016 European Championship, has 12 caps and one goal to his name. He was included in the Republic of Ireland's final squad for the 2016 European Championship.
