Stephen’s Biography
Stephen played underage football for local Cork side Leeds AFC and joined Cork City U19's for the 2011/2012 season. He joined the senior side for their pre-season preparations ahead of the 2012 league season and made his senior debut against Rockmount in a Munster Senior Cup tie on 21 February 2012. Stephen made 14 league appearances that year, thirteen of them from the substitutes bench and in 2013 he made another 8 league appearances as City finished sixth in the Premier Division.
Stephen left Turner's Cross to join Waterford United for the 2014 season and made his debut for the Blues as a late substitute against Finn Harps on 7 March 2014 but he made just 2 league appearances before switching to Cobh Ramblers in July of that year. His first outing for the Rams was at Ferrycarrig Park in a 2-1 defeat to Wexford Youths on 4 July but he went on to make 12 league appearances over the latter half of 2014 and scored two penalties along the way.
Stephen stayed with Cobh for 2015 and was their top goal-scorer, netting seven times in 25 league appearances for the club, as Cobh finished sixth in the First Division. He left St Colman's Park at the end of the season and appeared for Limerick in their friendly against Longford Town in February 2016. He duly signed for Martin Russell's side and became an immediate fixture on the right side of midfield, scoring four times in 26 league appearances as Limerick claimed the 2016 First Division title. In October 2017, Limerick announced that they were not offering Stephen a new deal and that he had been released.
In February 2018, Stephen signed for Galway United ahead of the new season but by July of that year he was on the move again, this time returning to Cobh Ramblers where he played for the next eighteen months, until the end of 2019.
Having left Cobh Stephen joined Munster Senior League side, Avondale United, where he played until February 2022 when he signed for Athlone Town ahead of their 2022 First Division campaign.
