WATERFORD
Waterford boss Keith Long has called on his side to rise to the occasion against Derry City on Friday night (kick-off is at 7.45pm).
The Blues are unbeaten in their last three games and sit in eighth place on 13 points.
They are just six points behind third placed Derry City.
“A big performance is required on Friday against Derry,” Long said.
“Obviously they’re at the top end of the table, so we know the task ahead of us. They’re a good side with really good players.
“They beat us already in the Brandywell this year back in March.
“But we’re at home, and in reasonable form, we want to try and build on the performances so far – turn draws into wins – and there’s no better place to start doing that than in the RSC.
“It’s so important for the supporters to get behind the team. We know we’re up against it against Derry, so we want to perform well.
“The boys are in good spirits and have worked really hard this week, and we’ve prepared well for the game.
“So hopefully we can translate what’s been on the training ground to the pitch and perform against a top side.”
Waterford will be without Kacper Skwierczyński through injury, while Connor Evans and Maleeace Asamoah are doubts.
DERRY CITY
Derry City are set to remain without a host of key players for their trip to the RSC on Friday night.
Sadou Diallo, Colm Whelan, Patrick McEleney, Cameron Dummigan and Jordan McEneff are set to miss out.
But assistant boss Paul Hegarty is hopeful his side can ensure that will not hinder their chances in the South-East.
“We have one or two carrying knocks from Monday night so we will assess them in training this week,” he explained.
“We look like we are going to score goals and everyone gets confidence out of that.
“There is a belief in the squad that we will create chances. Danny (Mullen) has been excellent in the last few games and has added a new dimension.
“With Pat coming back as well, they are a real threat no matter who they play against.”
Referee: Alan Patchell.
