Bohemians and their Waterford counterparts did battle in a five goal thriller on a beautiful Friday evening in Dalymount Park, where goals from Darragh Power and Sam Glenfield along with an own goal from Adam Mcdonnell was enough to secure the victory for the visitors.
Goals from Dayle Rooney and Dawson Devoy weren't enough for the home side as Waterford’s set pieces and fortunate luck, when it came to Rooney's penalty miss, was enough to clinch the win and secure all three points.
The first chance came to the home side who created the perfect start for themselves through a wonderful left footed strike from Dayle Rooney. Play built up down the left-hand side before finding Rooney who found the top corner, leaving Louis Jones no chance, and put Bohs 1-0 up just six minutes into the contest.
Keith Long’s side nearly found an equaliser not long after. The ball was whipped in from a Barry Crowe Baggley in swinging free kick. Glenfield met the ball through a headed attempt and forced Kacper Chorazka into a fantastic cat-like reflex save.
Padraig Amond tried to take the game into his own hand's, minutes later through another headed attempt for the blues. This time coming off the crossbar.
With 10 minutes to go, the Blues had another chance to find that goal they were desperately looking for when Conor Parsons picked up possession and dribbled his way through Bohs players, before pulling the ball back to the skipper Baggley who ballooned his effort at goal.
Dawson Devoy then doubled the home side's lead two minutes later, completely against the run of play. Adam McDonnell slipped Rooney a cute pass through the Waterford defence, in which he dinked the ball back across the box to Devoy who guided it home to frustrate the visitors further.
Waterford got one back less than a minute after the restart. A short corner led to a dangerous ball lofted into the box from Baggley, Rowan Mcdonald flicked it on the the final touch from McDonnell who took it out of Corazka’s path and into the back of the net.
Waterford’s well drilled set pieces caused the Gypsies a lot of problems throughout the game. The Blues finally capitalized 16 minutes into the second half when they grabbed the equaliser through a corner that was taken while the home side were asleep.
It was lifted into the box from yet another Baggley cross and eventually ended up at the feet of Darragh Power who drilled the ball home.
With 10 minutes to go in the game Waterford scored to put them in the lead in Dublin, through a thunder strike from Glenfield on the edge of the home side’s box.
Glenfield’s strike was enough to secure the victory. Rooney closed out this mad affair between the two sides by striking the crossbar from a penalty that was given in the 95th minute when James Clarke was brought down in the box. The Gypsies were left heartbroken after the penalty miss but ended in the fair result.
