TREATY UNITED
Treaty United will be buoyed by the additions of Chris Horgan and Jack Kavanagh to their squad this week ahead of their tie against Finn Harps at the Markets Field on Friday (kick-off is at 7.45pm).
The Shannonsiders moved to sign both players ahead of Sunday’s transfer deadline with their play-off hopes appearing slim.
But a win over Harps on Friday would signal a boost to their chances as they look to claw the gap back on the top-five.
Horgan joins Treaty after previously lining out for Galway United before going to study in the Netherlands. His brother Daryl is an Irish international, while other brothers Kevin and Colm have also lined out in the League of Ireland.
“Chris is another young player with experience and has been studying and playing in the Netherlands for a few years,” boss Tommy Barrett told his club’s website this week.
“He brings a good level of professionalism and energy to the group which will help us moving forward.”
The arrival of fellow defender Kavanagh is also a boost having arrived from Munster rivals Kerry.
The left-back, 22, played for Dundalk as a youth and was most recently with Athlone before joining the Kingdom earlier this year.
FINN HARPS
Finn Harps will be seeking to maintain their strong campaign when they visit Munster for the third time in as many weeks.
The Co Donegal played Cork City on back-to-back weekends in the league and FAI Cup before Friday’s tie against Treaty United.
And despite the hectic travel arrangements, Harps are fourth in the table and looking good for a play-off spot.
But boss Darren Murphy knows his side still have lots of work to do to seal a play-off spot.
“I think if you take Cork out of it there’s nothing separating the teams in this league,” he told Donegal Live. “We’re three points off third spot but we’re only five points off seventh.
“It goes to show the level of competition in this league, and every manager, including myself, will be believing that their side has a chance of getting to a play-off.”
