CORK CITY
Runaway First Division leaders Cork City can become a step closer towards securing the First Division title on Friday evening when they welcome Longford Town to Turner’s Cross (kick-off is at 7.45pm).
The Leesiders could win the second tier as early as next week if they beat Longford and UCD in their next two league outings.
And the excitement is building for City and midfielder Barry Coffey who knows they are close to the Premier Division.
“It’s all about getting over the line now,” Coffey said during a pre-match press conference this week.
“Longford are obviously having a tough season themselves but we’ve played them a couple of times - and we scored from set-pieces. They’re quite difficult to play against.
“We’re at home in Turner’s Cross and with the form we’ve been carrying in the league.. We are still unbeaten and the Cobh game last week was brilliant, getting the last minute winner.
“That will give us momentum and hopefully on Friday we will have another great performance and get a step closer.”
LONGFORD TOWN
Basement side Longford Town will be looking to build on a battling draw against Kerry last weekend at Bishopsgate.
It has been a difficult campaign for the Red and Black at the foot of the First Division.
They sit four points behind ninth-placed Kerry on 17 points and have not won since a shock away victory over Bray Wanderers last month.
But last weekend’s draw against the Kingdom was a step in the right direction with Mohamed Boudiaf and Francis Campbell both scoring.
Defender Jamie Egan also returned from an injury that has kept him out for much of the season.
However, attackers Luke Wade-Slater and Adam Wixted remain out.
Referee: Declan Toland.
