Women’s Champions League wrap: European heavyweights PSG and Barca both take one goal leads back home for quarter-final second legs

Both Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona were made work for their 2-1 first leg away wins in the Champions League quarter-finals on Wednesday night.
In the early kick-off PSG beat Häcken 2-1 away in the Bravida Arena. Eva Gaetino, with her first professional goal, put the French side 1-0 up before Rosa Kafaji equalised just before the break. Tabitha Chawinga got the first leg winner in the 74th minute.
In Bergan, Caroline Graham Hansen got an early goal for Barcelona that was cancelled out by Brann’s Cecille Redisch Kvamme six minutes before the break. Salma Paralluelo got the winner for the reigning European champions in the 72nd minute with a sharp turn and shot in the box.
Barcelona are looking to lift the trophy for the third time in the last four years but take only the slenderest of margins home for the second leg against the Norwegian side. They haven’t lost a European two legged tie since 2018.
In Tuesday’s other quarter-finals, Lyon beat Benfica 2-1 away from home, with Chelsea earning a 3-0 win away to Ajax.
