Shamrock Rovers
A huge game in the Women’s Premier Divison takes place this Saturday as league leaders Peamount United travel to Tallaght to take on title challengers Shamrock Rovers (Kick Off 4.45pm).
Last weekend, the Hoops were held to a 0-0 draw in the Dublin Derby against Bohemians. Reflecting on the game, Head Coach Collie O’Neill felt his side did enough to win the match.
“I think for the amount of possession that we had and the number of chances that we created in the first half, I don’t think people would have argued if we had won the game” said O’Neill speaking to Shamrock Rovers media.
O’Neill bemoaned that his side lacked the finishing touch on the day to pick up all three points against Bohs.
“We completely controlled the game, but what we did lack was that extra cutting edge. So, I think we probably did deserve a little bit more out of it but I can’t really argue too much with the draw because we lacked that cutting edge.
Despite ‘controlling the game’ in the words of O’Neill, they still needed a brilliant save from Amanda Budden to prevent the Hoops losing their first game of the season.
“It was a very good save” reflected O’Neilll. “Particularly because she didn’t have much to do for a long period of the game. It goes to show you what a good goalkeeper she is, that she can keep her concentration levels and then be able to pull off a save like that”.
On the injury front, the Tallaght side are almost at full strength with only Maria Reynolds the only player ruled out for the game. Stephanie Zambra could feature on Saturday against her former club.
Speaking about the injuries stated, “No, things on the injury front are looking better with Stephanie getting really close to being in consideration for a matchday squad.
“Maria had her operation and is healing well and she’s on her way to a return. I think we’re getting close to finally having a full squad available for us”.
Peamount United
Despite the losses of key players in the off-season, it has been as-you-were for the Peas. Once again, sitting at the summit heading into the mid-season break.
The three-time winners will look to put some distance between themselves and the Hoops. A win will see them go six points clear at the top of the table.
Peamount United come into this game on the back of a four game winning streak, the latest being a 5-3 home win against Athlone Town. A hattrick by Kate Mooney helped seal the win.
The game is being broadcasted on TG4, coverage starts at 4.30pm.
Referee: Jason Moore
