WEXFORD
Wexford begin their First Division campaign with an exciting South-East Derby when they host Waterford at Ferrycarrig Park on Friday night (kick-off 7.45pm).
New boss James Keddy will get to see what his new Wexford side are made of when they test their steel against last year’s First Division runners up.
He’s added significant talent coming into this season so this Wexford will be a good bit different than in 2022 – highly touted Jordan Adeyemo has signed alongside club record goal scorer Danny Furlong meaning they could have a potent attack.
Wexford natives Conor Levingston and Ethan Boyle have also arrived at Ferrycarrig Park and bring a wealth of Premier Division experience to the side.
Last season Wexford narrowly missed out on a playoff spot when they finished three points off fifth place – they will be looking to begin their campaign with a positive result against the favourites for promotion on Friday night.
WATERFORD
Waterford went close to promotion last year after manager Danny Searle took the reins midway through the 2022 season and they will be looking to go one further and secure Premier Division status this year.
That all starts with a short trip to Ferycarrig Park where they will have their first opportunity at three points on Friday night.
“We’ve been building towards the start of the season and we’re delighted it’s here. We’ve worked hard on the pitch for the past weeks and months and are excited to get the season started,” Danny Searle said, speaking to the club’s website
“It’s been a busy few weeks but all the players are looking forward to getting on the pitch on Friday and get the season started. It’s a long season but we’ll be looking to get a good start with some tough ties over the first few weeks.
“We’ve a good mix of youth and experience throughout the team and we know these players will excite the fans this season. The fans have been extraordinary, and we know how much we’ll need them this season.
“Friday starts a long season, but we can’t wait to get going.”
Just one absentee for the Blues with goalkeeper Matthew Connor sidelined through injury.
