Michael Cooke reports from the Markets Field
Treaty United and Bray Wanderers had to settle for a share of the spoils following a 1-1 draw at the Markets Field.
Both goals were scored inside the first 15 minutes. Treaty’s Enda Curran cancelled out Ben Feeney’s opener for the visitors.
A draw was a fair result overall with both sides enjoying their fair share of meaningful chances.
The Seagulls broke the deadlock nine minutes in. Feeney collected an aimless back pass and rounded Treaty goalkeeper Shane Hallahan before firing to the net.
Treaty could have restored parity three minutes later. Dean George missed the target completely after he was teed up by Willie Armshaw.
The hosts pulled one back on 15 minutes as Curran registered his ninth goal of the season.
Marc Ludden collected a miscued pass from Guillermo Almirall and played a delightful pass into the path of Curran. The Treaty striker chipped the ball over the onrushing Bray goalkeeper Stephen McGuinness and into the net.
60 seconds later, Bray almost regained the upper hand. Feeney was repelled by Hallahan at the near post after cutting inside from the left.
Feeney came close again on 24 minutes. He collected Darren Craven’s pass, and his curling shot forced a fingertip save from Hallahan.
The sides remained tied at half-time but Treaty almost took the lead six minutes after the restart.
George connected with Colin Conroy's left-wing cross but failed to direct his header on target.
Curran tried to double his and Treaty’s tally on 54 minutes, but his 20-yard effort was kept out by Bray goalkeeper Stephen McGuinness.
Bray substitute Jake Walker subsequently missed two chances in 60 seconds. His first effort on 64 minutes deflected off Darren Nwankwo and out of play.
Treaty failed to clear the resultant corner kick; Walker latched on the loose ball but saw his effort saved by Hallahan.
The hosts were awarded a free-kick on 67 minutes. George connected with Ludden’s delivery, but his header went the wrong side of the post.
George was involved again as Treaty had a shout for a penalty five minutes from time.
The home supporters claimed he was pushed to the ground by Cole Omorehiomwan as he attempted a shot on goal, but referee Daniel Murphy didn’t agree.
The Seagulls could’ve snatched victory right at the death as Luka Lovic was denied by Hallahan.
Jake Walker headed Max Murphy's cross into the path of the Bray midfielder, but his effort was saved by the Treaty netminder.
The contest ended in a stalemate meaning both sides failed to achieve back-to-back victories.
