Longford Town
A highly competitive clash awaits between Longford Town and Wexford FC at Bishopsgate this Saturday night (kick-off is at 7.30pm).
The South East side are just two points ahead of Longford in a tight bottom half of the table.
It will be a sentimental visit, with several of the travelling squad being poached from the Town during the winter transfer window; Ben Lynch, Jordan Adeyemo and the club’s longest serving player Karl Chambers are amongst those who switched allegiance to Wexford this season.
The squad will also be reunited with Wexford boss James Keddy, who was assistant to Gary Cronin last season.
Longford have only one win so far in this campaign, a 2-0 victory over Kerry at home two weeks ago.
Their last outing saw them lose 3-2 to a struggling Treaty United after Dean George found a late winner at Markets Field to seal the Limerick side’s first three points of the season.
Francis Campbell and Josh Giurgi found the net for the Town but it wasn’t enough on the night, and they’ll be hoping to make a stronger impact on the field this Saturday.
Wexford FC
Wexford will be hoping for a positive turnaround following last week’s 4-0 defeat to table-toppers Galway United.
James Keddy’s side defended superbly at Ferrycarrig until a penalty was conceded in the dying stages of the first-half.
From there, the team’s confidence declined with Galway scoring a further three, but Wexford can take some optimism from the plucky performance, especially with a substantial injury list.
Kian Corbally returned to the matchday squad last week and both Conor Levingston and Matthew Dunne will be pushing to make a comeback this weekend.
Aaron Robinson, Brandon McCann, Evan Farrell and Thomas Considine will continue to miss out on what has been a difficult start to the season with only two wins so far.
Saturday’s clash will be tricky, but young players such as Darragh Levingston and Corban Piper who have come into the starting XI in recent weeks have shown an impact, and will be a threat to the home side in this tie.
