Italy managed to secure a 1-0 win against Argentina in a tightly contested Group G match of the FIFA Women's World Cup.
The match began with both sides showing strong intent. Argentina came close with an attempt by Mariana Lorroquette, while Italy's Arianna Caruso and Valentina Giacinti both had goals disallowed due to offside calls.
In the second half, both teams had their fair share of opportunities but struggled to take advantage. Argentina, known for their second-half performances in previous World Cups, couldn't replicate their past success.
The decisive moment came when substitute Cristiana Girelli headed home a cross from Lisa Boattin just four minutes after entering the pitch.
This goal proved to be the winner, with Argentina unable to equalize in the closing stages.
The match concluded with a significant milestone for Girelli, who became the first player to score in two separate editions of the FIFA Women's World Cup for Italy, adding to her hat-trick against Jamaica in 2019.
With Sweden's 2-1 victory over South Africa, Italy now move into second spot on goal difference as Argentina move to the foot of the table.
