PEAMOUNT UNITED
Peamount lead the way currently in the WNL on goal difference from the current champions Shelbourne. The Peas are also a massive 13 points ahead of Bohemians who are the visitors to PRL Park at 1pm on Saturday.
They’ll be keeping a close eye on Tolka Park where Shelbourne kick off one hour after they do against Treaty United as the title race hots up and wins and indeed goal difference becomes vital even this early in the season.
Peamount improved their goal difference considerably last weekend when they annihilated Cork City 8-1 at PRL Park.
Áine O’Gorman scored a first-half hat-trick with Karen Duggan making it 4-0 before the break. O’Gorman added two more in the second half to bring her haul for the season to eight goals from seven games, with Stephanie Roche and Alannah McEvoy also getting on the scoresheet for Peamount. Cork’s solitary goal came from a deflected Shaunagh McCarthy free kick. O’Gorman’s performance for the Peas earned her a place on the WNL team of the week and also took her to the top of the Evoke.ie Golden Boot leaderboard.
Speaking to Peamount United’s media after the game, Áine O’Gorman gave an insight into the preparation that inspired their impressive performance.
“It is just good to get the three points. We had a tough game against Athlone last week so we were prepared and ready to go. We have been working on our finishing all week in training. There had been a bit of a low standard from me personally so I’m happy it paid off.”
BOHEMIANS
Bohemians are still looking for their second win of the season after seven games as they travel to PRL Park on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 1pm).
The Gypsies have had a disappointing start to the season with one with and two draws from their first seven games.
Bohs were beaten comprehensively in their last game when they lost 3-0 at Dalymount to Galway last Saturday.
The Tribeswomen managed to take the lead after only five minutes when Jenna Slattery finished with a shot from outside the area. The Gypsies did have chances in the first half with Isobel Finnegan, Chloe Darby and Lisa Murphy going close. However, they couldn’t find the equaliser before half-time and ten minutes after the restart Galway made it 2-0 through Emma Starr. One minute later the game was effectively decided when Galway added a third after an excellent run and finish by Shauna Brennan.
This is the first time Bohemians have faced the league leaders Peamount United this season, with their last league meeting last season ending in a 3-0 defeat for Bohs.
The Gypisies will be desperate for any sort of result as they currently lag in ninth place, however, the gap between ninth place and Athlone Town in fifth is only five points so a few good results could give an opportunity to climb towards the top half of the table.
MATCH STATS
Peamount lead the way in almost every attacking category in the WNL so far this season. Shots on goal 148, crosses 154, touches in the penalty area 159 and corners 49.
Bohemians will be looking to secure a first league win since they defeated Sligo Rovers on the 26th of March.
