Patrick O Connor reports from Ferrycarrig Park Wexford
There was a real end of season feel to the game in Ferrycarrig Park on Friday night when Wexford and Galway United played out a 0-0 draw in the last home game of the season at the Wexford venue.
The sparse attendance did not have much to enthuse about in the opening 45 minutes and apart from back passes both goalkeepers were not called into action for the entire first half.
There were chances created by both sides however but poor finishing at both ends meant the game was scoreless at the break.
Galway United’s best chance fell to right winger Ronan Manning in the 30th minute when he played a one-two with Stephen Walsh but totally miscued his final effort with the ball drifting harmlessly wide.
Manning also had another cross cum shot in the 34th minute but it lacked accuracy and sailed over the bar without troubling keeper Alex Moody.
Bastian Hery also teed up Walsh for a shot on goal in the 37th minute but again he blazed over the bar with his weaker left foot.
The home side were not without their own half chances, the best of which fell to Thomas Considine in the 40th minute when he skipped past Max Hemmings only to take too many touches and allow his final shot be deflected away for a corner.
Conor Crowley was also about to pull the trigger for a good chance in the 44th minute but he was flagged for offside, the final action of the opening half.
There was an increase in intensity in the second half with both sides having reasonably clear-cut chances to grab a goal.
Right back Hemmings found himself in unfamiliar territory in the 53rd minute when he was one on with Moody, but the home keeper did well to deflect his goal bound shot away for a corner.
At the other end Considine was straight through but this time keeper Conor Kearns also did well, getting a foot block on a goal bound shot and conceding a corner.
Galway also hit the bar with a header from a corner in the 66th minute while both sides also used their substitutes bench in an ultimately futile attempt to force a winner
The game finished 0-0, a fair reflection of the game overall.
