GALWAY UNITED
The Tribesmen will be looking for a fourth win in a row when they host Longford Town at Eamonn Deacy Park on Monday evening (kick-off 5pm).
On Friday night Galway United travelled to Limerick to face Treaty United and they pulled off a spectacular comeback from 2-0 down to win 2-3 in the final 15 minutes.
Dean George scored twice for Treaty despite Galway having much of the better chances throughout the game, John Caulfield adjusted his side immediately after the second goal and Ronan Manning, Alex Murphy and Stephen Walsh all netted to send the Tribesmen home with the three points.
United have only lost one game so far this season and they will be looking to make amends on Monday when they face Longford. De Town are the only side to inflict a loss on Galway in a disappointing performance for the Tribesmen at Bishopsgate earlier this season.
With Gary Cronin’s side looking to get in among the top of the table, they will be pushing desperately for a win after defeat to Cork City on Friday and John Caulfield’s men will have to be at their best.
“We are looking forward to the game again Monday, it was a very tough match against Treaty United but we were very happy to get the three points,” Caulfield told the club’s media team.
“We know how good Longford are. They played well against Cork, the scoreline wasn’t a true reflection of the game. They are very strong in the attacking third so we will need to be at our best to get a result.”
LONGFORD TOWN
De Town have had a bright start to this year’s First Division as they seek to win promotion back to the Premier Division after relegation last season.
That positive start has stalled somewhat recently with a scoreless draw against Treaty United last week and a 4-1 loss to Cork City on Friday night.
Gary Cronin’s side went ahead in the first half with the goal coming from Sam Verdon, but an own goal by Michael Barker just before the break meant the side were level at halftime.
A brace from Barry Coffey and a fourth goal from Cian Bargary meant Longford left Turners Cross having suffered their second loss of the season.
They still have two games at hand on the Rebels, who sit in first place, but a good result against second place Galway will be imperative for them to stay in touch with the title challenging side.
“We know what to expect off Galway on Monday,” Gary Cronin told the club’s media team.
“They’re up there and they’re a difficult team to beat with a very experienced manager. We have to try and do what we do best and that’s play football.
“The lads have been fantastic, they really have.”
