League Preview: Peamount United -v- Shelbourne

PEAMOUNT UNITED

The reigning Women’s National League and FAI Women’s Cup champions are back in action this weekend hosting title rivals Shelbourne at Greenogue on Saturday (kick-off 6pm).

United have just one game played this season after a bye week in week two of the WNL and last week’s international break.

They began their season as expected with a 1-0 win over Wexford Youths in March, but the side were lucky to escape with any of the points on the day.

Wexford’s Kylie Murphy missed a penalty in the 84^th minute to Peamount’s relief, and the Dublin side managed to get up the other side of the field and have Eleanor Ryan Doyle score a stunning goal to claim the three points.

This will be another tough game for Peas especially having not played in two weeks and it is sure to be another exciting chapter in the intense rivalry between these two clubs.

SHELBOURNE

The Reds will have their tails up coming into this weekend, sitting on top of the WNL table with six points from their two games so far this season.

They have five goals to their name over the course of their two games, and Noel King will have been pleased to see new signing Saoirse Noonan get off the mark with a brace against Cork City two weeks ago.

Shelbourne have yet to concede a goal this season which is another huge positive for last year’s WNL runners up, but Peas could pose a much bigger attacking threat than they’ve seen so far in 2021.

Noel King’s side are still without Chloe Mustaki and Rebecca Creagh this weekend who continue their recovery from injury.

United are on a four game winning streak against the Reds in all competitions with Shelbourne last beating Peas in October 2019.
