League Preview: Galway -v- Bohemians

GALWAY

The Tribeswomen will be looking to secure a second win in a row when they host Bohemians in the Women’s National League on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 2pm).

As it stands, Galway are firmly in fifth place, and they will be looking to keep Bohs at bay with the Dublin side in sixth place.

Stephen Lally’s side hadn’t been scoring stacks of goals in recent weeks, but they broke out last weekend in their game against Cork City when they beat the Rebels 6-1.

There was a great spread of goals across the team with Chole Singleton scoring first to draw the sides level after Eva Mangan put Cork City in the lead in the 11^th minute.

Emma Starr scored twice, and Kate Slevin scored her first goal since April with Aoife Thompson and Elle O’Flaherty coming off the bench to finish the scoring for the home side in an impressive victory.

The big news for Galway heading into the weekend is the announcement of current player Ruth Fahy’s move to a behind the scenes role as the club’s first CEO.

Fahy starts her new role in September so Saturday’s game will be the defender’s last game in maroon.

BOHEMIANS

Bohemians put an end to a six-game run without a win last weekend with a strong performance against Treaty United.

The Gypsies ran out 5-1 winners over the Limerick side with Lisa Murphy, Erica Burke, Abbie Brophy and Chloe Darby scoring for the home side.

Lara Phibbs came off the bench for Sean Byrne’s side to score her first WNL goal to help see off United last Saturday.

With just four points separating Bohemians from Galway in the WNL they will be looking to gain ground as the season heads closer to the end of the season.

The Gypsies had their scoring boots on last weekend but with Galway looking a lot stronger defensively in recent months this could be a tough challenge for the Dublin side on Saturday afternoon.

Galway secured their second win in three games when they saw off Cork City last weekend with a 6-1 victory at Eamonn Deacy Park.

The sides have met twice so far this season with Galway coming out on top in their first meeting at Deacy Park with Bohemians holding the Tribeswomen to a draw in Dublin later in the season.
