League Report: Cork City 2 - 3 Treaty United

Two penalties from Kieran Hanlon helped Treaty United to a first victory at Turner Cross. The Limerick side maintain their place in the promotion race as they managed to keep pace with Galway United.
Cork City will be kicking themselves after contributing to their own demise. They had recovered to lead just before half-time only to let it slip with mistakes at the back.
The Leesiders lost Jack Baxter as his loan spell from Preston came to an end. Dave Holland dropped to the bench. Dylan McGlade and Alec Byrne replaced them.
Treaty were also forced to make changes. Shane Cusack started in goal after replacing Tadgh Ryan last weekend. Jack Lynch was also out through injury. Joe Collins dropped to the bench. Sean Guerins and Kieran Hanlon both came in.
The home side were on top in the early stages of the game. McGlade, Steven Beattie and Gearoid Morrissey all had attempts from outside the area which went over the top. Darragh Crowley also saw a header go wide from a McGlade corner. Treaty seemed content to sit back and allow City have the ball.
It was a surprise when Treaty hit the front. Jonas Hakkinen was adjudged to have handled the ball in the penalty area following a corner. The defender voiced his innocence, but to only receive a booking for it. Hanlon was the man who took the responsibility to beat Mark McNulty from the spot.
City hit back soon after though. Hanlon was lucky that Shane Cusack managed to save his goal-bound header. The resulting corner was floated in by McGlade and Beineon O’ Brien Withmarsh found the necessary space to head home.
He almost got City in front a few minutes later as he ran onto a ball from Cian Coleman. His ball into the centre was bundled clear though. Coleman then was left cursing his luck. He was unable to direct his header properly from a dangerous Beattie freekick when left un-marked.
City did go in front right on half-time. McGlade advanced down the left after intercepting a pass. His ball was intended for O’Brien Withmarsh before being crowded out. The ball came loose however and played into the path of Cian Murphy. The striker was able to slide the ball past Cusack into the bottom corner.
Treaty equalised early into the second-half. Yet again it was Hanlon and yet again it was a penalty for handball. Gordon Walker was the guilty party on this occasion. Same result for Hanlon as he drew the Limerick side level.
City did try to respond as they attacked the shed end. Cian Murphy and O’Brien Withmarsh combined to set up Byrne who just shot over. Moments later Darragh Crowley was unable to reach a decent cross from Beattie. O’Brien Withmarsh held the ball up from a corner to lay it off to McGlade. He was only able to find the side netting though.
Treaty found themselves back in front and again City were at fault at the back. A long ball forward was not cleared effectively by Beattie. Sub Joe Collins tried a speculative effort from outside the area. It seemed to have bounced at least once before evading the grasp of McNulty.
Cork tried desperately to get back into the game as the game reached its final stages. Beattie and Byrne had opportunities, while there were two serious shouts for penalties as O’Brien Withmarsh went down in the area. Nothing given and Treaty hung on. They take on league leaders Shelbourne at home next Friday, while City welcome Bray to the cross on the same night.
