League Report: Cabinteely 1 - 2 Cobh Ramblers
- Extratime Team
- Sat, Oct 09 2021
Early goals in each half gave Cobh Ramblers their first league win since July as they defeated Cabinteely with minimal fuss at Stradbrook.
Danny O’Connell’s opener and a Jake Hegarty header handed Cobh all three points – as they moved level on points with Cabo in the First Division table.
Cabinteely’s defeat sees them continue their wretched winless run, and loss of form. They have only picked up a mere seven points since the mid-season break.
Alex Aspil scored late on for Pat Devlin’s side but it was not enough as they were edged out by a 2-1 scoreline.
Darren Murphy’s side took an early lead as Danny O’Connell pounced on a defensive mishap from the Cabinteely defence.
The former Munster Senior League star raced through on goal, before rounding Harry Halwax to dink the ball into the back of the net.
In a game short on quality, neither side looked especially threatening in the first-half, with Eoin McPhillips’ header going wide for the hosts.
Cobh extended their lead just after the hour mark, however, through Jake Hegarty.
Hegarty headed home after some good play from Stephen O’Leary found his head to put the game beyond the reach of the hosts.
Alex Aspil struck with the last meaningful kick of the game, however, to reduce the arrears. It was, although, not be for Cabinteely as they fell to another home defeat.
