GLASGOW CITY
Glasgow City will be hoping to avoid a Champions League shock on Wednesday when they welcome Peamount United to the Scottish capital (kick-off is at 7pm).
City come into the game fresh off the back of a resounding 8-1 win over Forfar Athletic – but they have only played two competitive games all season.
However, it is a daunting challenge that awaits Peamount – with them recently reaching the 2019/20 Champions League quarter-finals last season.
They were eventually heavily defeated by German giants Wolfsburg in the last-eight – but their professional status will undoubtedly test the Peas tomorrow evening.
Glasgow do have two Irish players within their ranks, with both Clare Shine and Tyler Toland both playing for the club.
But despite their obvious quality, their manager Scott Booth is wary of the challenge that Peamount pose.
"It will be tough," he told his club's media team. "We know it's a one-off tie but we have to be professional and look to control the game.
"We're the home side and we'd love nothing more than to make it through the tie but we have to be totally professional about it."
The Scottish champions have yet to release team news ahead of Wednesday’s European tie.
PEAMOUNT UNITED
James O’Callaghan’s side have it all to do tomorrow evening if they are to provide the most seismic of shocks away to Glasgow City.
Peamount however come into the game after a two-nil win away to Galway, and they have also recently won 6-1 away to Shelbourne.
Despite the challenge that awaits Peas, experienced campaigner Aine O’Gorman is encouraging her teammates to relish the occasion.
“I think they (the players) just need to embrace the challenge and the experience to learn,” O’Gorman said to the media this week.
“Going into the game on Wednesday, I think just embrace the challenge, go out with no fear and perform on the stage that you're given as I know they can.
“We've got a really big squad, there's a lot of competition for places, training is a really good intensity, we're all pushing each other for starting positions.
“That's a really competitive and healthy environment to be in. We have some really, really exciting young players coming through this season as well in Becky Watkins and Della Doherty too so there's plenty of positives.
“Everyone's going to just have to perform to their very best ability, go out and defend well and play when we get on the ball and just have no fear.”
Referee: Sabina Bolic (Croatia).
