Odhrán Crumley reports from the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium
It was nothing lost and nothing gained in the race for Europe as Derry City played out a scoreless draw against Bohs.
Derry will have another chance to move into the driving seat next week when they take on Cork at the Brandywell when Bohs are in FAI Cup semi-final action.
The first chance of the game fell to the home team, Eoin Toal’s diagonal ball, finding Ciaran Coll on the left, his deep searching cross was met by the head of Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe who headed over the top.
Toal would be the playmaker once again midway through the first half. His disguised pass thread David Parkhouse through on goal but his effort rebounded off an alert James Talbot.
Declan Devine’s men dominated every exchange but couldn’t turn that supremacy into goals.
Jack Malone’s searching cross from the right evaded the reach of Parkhouse’s boot and tailing harmlessly wide.
Somehow, there would be no goals by the break despite the peppering of Talbot’s goal by the home team.
Early in the second half, Derry would have a legitimate penalty shout turned down after a neat turn took Jack Malone into the area where he appeared to have been bundled to the ground by Paddy Kirk.
The Candystripes continued to attack and a breakaway should really have warranted a shot on target at the very least.
Ciaran Harkin threaded Parkhouse through, his effort from the left of the area tailing past the far post and wide.
Bohs would arguably have the best chance of the game with their first real effort on goal.
A poor pass from Jamie McDonagh allowed Luke Wade-Slater through on goal but he blazed over the bar much to the displeasure of his manager Keith Long.
Both sides continued to create chances to no avail, Barry McNamee gathering a lose ball on the edge of the area, driving into the box, his shot across the face of the goal was well saved by Talbot.
Long brought on 14-year-old Evan Ferguson late on and his team earned a point on the travels to take back to Dalymount Park.
