CORK CITY
Cork City have had a tough start to the new season picking up their first three points from three games with a hard fought victory against Sligo Rovers on Monday night.
Their first home game of the season saw them suffer defeat to local rivals Waterford and following Monday’s first win of the season John Caulfield will be looking to start building on that now.
Speaking ahead of the game, assistant manager John Cotter said “Hopefully we can get another good crowd and start the game well. We started well on Monday night and got the first goal which is always huge. On Friday we’ll be looking to do the same, we’ll come flying out and stamp our authority and hopefully get ahead in the game.”
“Derry had a great win in the Brandywell against Waterford, so we’re under no illusions. We have to be at our best again and play well. It’ll be a tough game, but it’s always a good fixture to have. Whether it’s home or away, it’s always a fixture to look forward to.”.
DERRY CITY
Derry City will look to get their first points of their away campaign tonight as they make the long journey to Turner’s Cross to face a Cork City side who have had a slow start to the season.
Two wins from two at the Brandywell and a defeat to Shamrock Rovers in Tallaght last Friday evening sees Declan Devine’s team sitting in third place just behind St. Pats.
Derry City assistant manager Kevin Deery spoke to the media ahead of the game and is confident of picking up a positive result off the back of Monday evening’s performance at home to Waterford.
“We played really well on Monday night so why not go into the game with confidence. said Deery ahead of the game.
“We definitely have a good chance of coming out with a positive result,”
Both sides come into the game looking for back to back wins for the first time this season.
