COBH RAMBLERS
Frustrating is the best word to describe the start of Cobh Rambler’s season as they welcome Wexford to St Colman’s Park for their third game of the season (kick-off 7pm).
On the opening night of the season, they arrived late to Drogheda, which wasn’t the ideal preparation for a tough game against a team expected to be in contention for promotion.
They weren’t shown any mercy by the officials on the night, given just ten minutes to warm up and ended up losing 4-0 on the night.
The struggle has continued for Stephen Henderson’s men this week succumbing to a 1-0 home defeat to Athlone Town last weekend.
Their EA Sports Cup First round tie against Limerick was cancelled at the last minute due to adverse weather conditions.
Cobh will be raring to go at this stage and, with Danny Furlong suspended for the visitors, they will be confident of getting their season up and running against Wexford.
WEXFORD
Wexford have a poor recent record against Cobh Ramblers with a record of six defeats and two draws from eight games in all competitions since 2017.
These sides met each other in pre-season as they both prepared for their league season and Cobh coming out on top with a 3-1 victory.
Brian O’Sullivan’s side travel to Cobh looking to pick up their first league points of the season in their third league game.
The men from the south east have had a tough start to their 2019 season conceding eight goals in their opening two league games.
An opening day 4-2 defeat to Athlone was followed up with a 4-0 home defeat to Galway United last Friday evening.
Their other competitive fixture this season was an EA Sports Cup first round defeat to Bray Wanderers on Monday evening.
