SHELBOURNE
Shelbourne welcome Galway United to Tolka Park for their final league game of the season on Saturday (kick-off 7.45pm). A win for the home side will ensure they secure a play-off place and continue their quest for promotion to the Premier Division.
Owen Heary’s side have put together a very good run of form in recent weeks and are unbeaten in their last six league games.
Their solid home form has been the foundation for their promotion push this season losing just one of their thirteen home games and taking maximum points in seven of those games.
Striker David O’Sullivan has had a fine year in front of goal and sits just one goal clear of Longford Town winger Dylan McGlade heading into the final evening of league fixtures.
Shelbourne currently occupy third position in the league and sit just one point clear of Drogheda United in fourth. Longford also remain in contention just three points adrift of Shels before Saturday night’s final hurdle.
GALWAY UNITED
Galway United’s inconsistent season will mean that they will compete in the First Division again in 2019 but they will still be looking to finish the season on a high and with positives to take into next season.
Regardless of the result Saturday evening, Alan Murphy’s men are guaranteed a 6th place finish this season as they sit seven points clear of 7th placed Cabinteely and seven points behind 5th placed Longford Town.
Conor Barry and Eoin McCormack are both on ten league goals for the season and lead the way in terms of the goal scoring charts for Galway.
Galway’s away form has been very inconsistent this season picking up just fourteen points on the road this term from a possible thirty nine.
