Cork City take on St Peters of Athlone tonight in Turners Cross with kick off set for 7.45.
CORK CITY
City can turn their attention to the FAI Cup on Friday night as they take on one of the competition’s remaining non-league entities.
Manager John Caulfield, speaking at his weekly press conference, said that this would very much be a David v Goliath clash between the sides.
“We have had an intense couple of weeks and winning the six league games in a row has been phenomenal. It keeps us right in there and it shows our supporters that there is a real spirit and attitude amongst these players, they are never beaten.”
“It’s a fantastic game for St. Peter’s; I know a lot about their club and I know some of their players and backroom staff. They are a fantastic club and have worked really hard over the years. They were beaten in the FAI Junior Cup Semi-Final this year and they have quite a few guys who would have played with Athlone and with the Irish Army team; it is a fantastic occasion for them.”
“It is a David versus Goliath clash, but we have to treat them with the respect they deserve. It is a massive opportunity for us to get to the next round. Everyone knows how crucial it is for our club to be up challenging at the top of the table, trying to win trophies.”
In team news, Gearoid Morrissey is back in training following a hamstring injury but will not be risked for this one. John Kavanagh is also working his way back from a long injury related lay-off and therefore will also not be risked in this game while Garry Buckley has picked up a knock and therefore will also be given the evening off.
