CABINTEELY FC
The League of Ireland’s newest side are set to make their SSE Airtricity League debut’s on Friday night, as they welcome Shane Keegan’s Wexford Youths to Stradbrook for a 7.45PM kick off time.
During the short time he has had in the hot seat, former Bray boss Eddie Gormley has brought in a number of players from around the Leinster Senior League as well as securing the signature of former Bray, Pats and Longford players.
A sell-out crowd is expected as the club’s 1000+ members are set to don their green jerseys in support of South Dublin’s newest senior side. One advantage Cabinteely do have is that they are not affected by suspensions carried over from last season, unlike the majority of the rest of the League of Ireland clubs. Team news for Cabo was not available at the time of writing, however a preview of their season can be found here.
WEXFORD YOUTHS
Wexford managed to finish last season in fourth place, just three points off third placed Galway United. Not too many people would have tipped Shane Keegan’s men to do that well prior to the commencement of the 2014 season but this season’s pre-season speculation and predictions have tipped Wexford to go even further.
New UCD manager Collie O’Neill even stated his belief that the Youths have the potential to win the whole Division.
Danny Furlong is sure to be a key man for the men from the South East this season as the 25 year old will hope to push on from last year’s endeavours when he netted eighteen times in twenty eight League games. Bohs and Bray have already fallen to Keegan’s men in pre-season so a strong start should be expected against Cabinteely who will likely be suffering from a lack of match practice having only player two friendlies against League of Ireland opposition.
The Youths most certainly do not head into this one in a clean bill of health with Dean Broaders, Stephen Last, Gary Delaney and Andy Mulligan all ruled out while an even bigger blow is the news that Danny Furlong will face a late fitness test due to a hamstring injury and has been listed as a major doubt for this League opener. Aidan Keenan is also suspended due to the accumulation of eight yellow cards last campaign.

MATCH FACTS
Nine goals conceded and the grand total of zero scored - this line doesn’t make for particularly sweet reading for Cabinteely’s players heading out of pre-season and into competitive football.
Wexford only lost once in their four pre-season friendlies with their game against Drogheda United getting called off at the end of February.
After Friday’s game in Stradbrook three of Youths next four games will take place inside the walls of Ferrycarrig Park.
