- John O'Shea
- Sun, May 31 2015
COBH WANDERERS
There will be at least one non-league side from Cork in the 3rd round of this year’s FAI Senior Cup, as Cobh Wanderers host Avondale United at their Old Church grounds on Sunday afternoon.
Wanderers will be hoping to make home advantage count and they have a number of players in their side who have League of Ireland experience, mainly with Cobh Ramblers.
The most well-known of these players would be Davin O’Neill, who has scored goals for both Cobh Ramblers and Cork City, while Gavin Kavanagh was also with City and Waterford United.
They will have a strong work ethic in their side, indicated by the fact that they have 5 players who are in the Army.
Eric McCarthy’s side will be hoping that a large home crowd will turn out to cheer them on, as they seek to make club history by getting to the 3rd round of the cup for the very first time.
AVONDALE UNITED
Avondale United are one of the strongest non-league sides in Ireland, this is proven by their record in the FAI Intermediate Cup.
They have won the Intermediate Cup on seven occasions, including winning it four years in a row from 2011 to 2014.
Dave O'Keeffe's Avondale side have given a good account of themselves in this competition also, getting to the quarter finals last year. Finn Harps needed a replay to get over the challenge which Avondale posed.
Referee: David Keeler.
